Macmillan Cancer Relief Updated: 24 June 2004

Organisation Facts
Macmillan Cancer Relief is a UK charity supporting people with cancer and their families through specialist care, treatment and information from the moment that cancer is diagnosed. It is the only cancer-care charity in the UK, which provides direct and immediate support to newly diagnosed sufferers.
Macmillan works closely with the NHS, voluntary organisations and other groups to promote and develop health and social services to meet the physical, psychological and practical needs of patients and carers. The views of patients and carers are taken into account in the design and development of all services. Macmillan principally provides grants, which are allocated on the basis of need and the impact they will have on improving or enhancing cancer care.
The charity is currently involved in expanding its Macmillan nurses and doctors service to wider geographic and healthcare areas. It is also improving its social work and related services, as well as its campaigning. Macmillan has a dedicated building programme to accommodate its specialised nursing and information services.
Macmillan’s income comes overwhelmingly from voluntary giving and fundraising activities.
The Charity has its UK office in London, and offices in Edinburgh, Belfast, Cowbridge in Wales and in its regions of England.
